Kwame Alexander is an American writer of poetry and children's fiction. His book, The Crossover, won the 2015 Newbery Medal recognizing the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." Bryan Ripley Crandall is the director of the Connecticut Writing Project at Fairfield and has been a supporter of Kwame Alexander's work since he met him in 2012. Bryan invited Kwame and his book, Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band, to be part of a Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant through the National Writing Project, collaborating with Hill Central, a K-8 urban school in New Haven, Connecticut. Originally aired May 28, 2015, this conversation explores Kwame's work and the ways teachers have connected his literary contributions to write across disciplines through professional development with CWP-Fairfield.
